How to Make a Delicious Soursop Tea

Soursop

The Soursop or Guyabano is fast getting famous in this generation and labelled by some as a miracle tree. It is said that the indigenous people from the Amazon jungle have used the bark, leaves, roots, flowers, fruit, and seed from the soursop tree centuries ago to treat various human ailments such as cancer, heart disease, asthma, liver problems, and arthritis. Medical scientists lately took interest on the alleged healing properties of this tree. It is said that several unpublished in vitro clinical studies has proven that extracts from the Guyabano tree can kill malignant cells of 12 different types of cancer, including ovarian, colon, breast, prostate, lung, liver, cervical, lymphoma, and pancreatic cancer. Furthermore, some research said that it is around 10,000 times stronger in killing colon cancer cells than the anti-cancer drug Adriamycin . The nice thing about the anti-cancer properties of this plant is that it kills cancer cells without harming healthy cells.

Medical experts though advice the general public to be careful in taking in large amounts of this extract until several more studies could prove its safety.

Dried Guyabano bark, leaves and fruit are now available commercially in some countries including the Philippines for brewing home-made tea. One can purchase a small pack of mixed dried Guyabano parts for less that US$3.00 that can make 10 liters of tea. To make the tea, add one heaping tablespoon of the dried mixture into a liter of water and boil for 5 minutes. Let cool then filter the concoction. You can drink it already at this point but the taste is not that good. To make it taste better, add 2 tablespoon of lemon juice and 3 tablespoon of pure honey. Mix well and chill. You will be surprised that it taste as good if not better than the available commercial iced tea drinks.

How much should you drink of it in a day? No one knows the answer at the moment until scientific studies can tell us the safe daily dose. But then again, the rule to a healthy living is to drink and eat in moderation. Be well everyone.

How do we make tea out of the leaves alone or also from the bark and fruit?
